Finishing third year

The last few weeks have been a bit hectic with final project hand-ins coming up.  One of my main projects this semester was to create something innovative to do with textile design.  Having always loved illustration I decided to try and incorporate this into my work, bringing in Braille as the innovative part.  Having chosen Alice in Wonderland as the starting point, I started researching how Braille is written as well as beginning to create illustrations to sit alongside the Braille writing.

Above is a mood-board showing various Alice in Wonderland inspiration.

Above is another mood-board, this time showing research into current
Braille and 3d illustrations.

Above is an illustration of mine showing Alice
playing croquet with a flamingo.

Each of my flat illustrations were then developed to add texture and 3d elements to add interest for those reading the Braille.  This involved different materials like fabric, foam and felt, as well as, laser cutting and etching, and hand embroidery.

This image shows two of my finals along side samples to go with them, the watch is
made from laser cut cardboard which I layered up and the cards are again laser cut and put
on little paper 'springs' to create the height.

Its been a long and tough semester but as of yesterday I'm excited to be finished for this year, 3 down, 1 to go!
